Bethanny Frankel
Here is a link to a show with Bethanny Frankel: Bethany Frankel on the Ellen show (The ellen Show, 2011) where the audience gets to ask some intimate questions...
- How has the theme of
"Trust Rules" impacted her life? Bethanny lives by the rules of
“yes,” where you don’t look at the people that have made it due to their
credentials, or looks, or because they have a better job. Bethanny goes buy her
“gut” feelings. Letting go of the past also plays a key role, not living in self-pity.
Bethanny is a hero, she stands for something, and she stays on the path,
figuring that eventually you will succeed. The funny thing is that the men
running the liquor companies are so narrow-minded to ignore a major market
segment and what they really want. Bethanny also uses social media heavily,
especially Twitter.
-
What have been her biggest challenges? How has she overcome these? It is
incredible the things Bethanny has endured and come out a winner. Bethanny’s
father obviously didn’t take the time or care about her upbringing, encouraging
her to drink at 7 didn’t show any consideration of her as a child, the gambling
wasn’t something that children should be raised on either, but she rebounded
and shows great resilience.
I also think that her degrees in communication and
psychology have helped her to understand her audience and convey her point, if
not also her product line. Bethanny knows what her audience wants, and she is a
figure-type of a majority of what American women feel and think.
- Is
she a leader? Does she lead by example? Why or why not?
I feel that Bethanny is a dynamic leader. Bethanny’s
openness and willingness to place the truth, not as a victim, but as an overcomer,
is the key to her approach. Bethanny is very open about her personal life,
while still maintaining a dignity and successful image; this is a talent that
she exhibits very well.
Bethanny also seems to portray most all of the Characteristics of Admired Leaders. I
notice that her adversities have honed her patience and her dedication to what
she feels is right. She isn’t perfect, and doesn’t want to convey that she is,
so, by being so open, yet competent, she wins the trust of her audience. Her
honesty (openness) is refreshing, she is forward-looking in her business,
inspiring to her audience, she is obviously intelligent, and broad-minded-if
not wide of vision while still able to focus on what works. Bethanny is also
dependable in the sense that she is there for an audience that absolutely loves
her. She is supportive through her openness, and determined to succeed-which is
also a key point she conveys to those in need of someone with a vision-if not
to follow then to at least feel associated with Bethanny’s success.
In this video on the Ellen show, Ellen Scares Bethenny Frankel (The Ellen Show, 2011) Bethany, dresses up like the little mermaid, and goes into a booth and
is “scared” by a creepy character; she still has a look on her face where she
is playing along, but in complete control. Bethanny is just letting her hair
down and showing some skin, allowing them to get behind the veil, as it were, but
always in control.
Bethanny is also a real go-getter, and a planner. She doesn’t give up,
and pushes to succeed. She also has forward-looking in her tool chest, as she envisions
the direction of her business, and even her exit plan.
-
How has charisma played a part in her success? What types of charisma does she
demonstrate? I believe Bethanny’s charismatic appeal is derived
from her ability to rise above her circumstances. Why I say this is because she
approaches all of the difficult situations she encounters with the same refined
approach staying in control, showing she is a human being, while still keeping
her professional dignity at the same time. I believe her followers respect her
for this, and they see that she has endured so much, that they can associate
with at least part of it, while most would say they could not associate with
all of it. This also makes her a leader by example.
- What type of power does she have? Why?
Bethanny
has the greatest type of power-after she has paid the price and “did her time,”
she has come out of the mire a winner, the underdog has prevailed. In winning
the respect and associating with the reality of the audience, they have found
something to trust in that seems more reliable, and they buy her products. I
believe that the older make of Conan The Barbarian explains this phenomenon:
the evil and highly charismatic James Earl Jones (actually a nice guy),
explains to a wounded Conan that the power of controlling the mind is far
greater than the “Riddle of Steel,” or actually the pursuit of it. Force only
creates worsening situations. The Kony 2012 (Invisiblechildreninc,
2012) shows the power that a dictator holds, although it is a very slippery
slope. Just imagine what could be done in Africa if trust and character become
the norm.
